Hogwarts Staff
Filch, Argus – Argus Filch is the caretaker at Hogwarts. It is common knowledge that he hates all students, probably because he is a squib. It seems to be his life’s ambition to get Peeves (and as many students as possible) kicked out of the castle. He was extremely disappointed (and the only one who was disappointed) when Professor Umbridge left Hogwarts.
Hagrid, Rubeus – Hagrid has been gamekeeper ever since he was expelled out of Hogwarts in his third year. His name was cleared by Harry, Ron, and Hermione (in Harry’s second year).
Madam Pince – Madam Pince is the librarian at Hogwarts, and makes a very big fuss about keeping her library quiet.
Madam Poppy Pomfrey – Madam Pomfrey is in charge of the Hospital Wing at Hogwarts. She takes her job very seriously and gets most upset when people are in the Hospital Wing who shouldn’t be. She can cure everything from growing 33 bones in an arm to fixing Poly-Juice Potions that went awry.
Madam Hooch – Madam Hooch is in charge of teaching flying lessons, and also refereeing Quidditch Matches at Hogwarts.
Mrs. Norris – Mrs. Norris is Argus Filch’s beloved cat. She helps him keep order in the castle and reports everything straight to Filch. It is the great ambition of many students to give Mrs. Norris a kick.
Ogg – The Gamekeeper (Hagrid’s job) in the days that Mr. & Mrs. Weasley went to Hogwarts.
Pringle, Apollyon – The caretaker (Argus Filch’s job) when Mr. & Mrs. Weasley were at Hogwarts.

Waffling, Adalbert – Magical Theory
Aragog – Aragog was a spider that Hagrid raised when he was at Hogwarts. The spider, was actually the reason that Hagrid got kicked out of school (they thought Aragog was the thing that was killing and Petrifying students). Aragog lives in the Forbidden Forest.
Bane – Bane is a centaur.
Buckbeak (“Beaky”) – Buckbeak is a hippogriff that was convicted of being dangerous because it hurt Malfoy’s arm. It was rescued by Harry and Hermione, who then went on to rescue Sirius using the hippogriff. Buckbeak is currently residing at the Headquarters of the Order.
Crookshanks – Crookshanks is Hermione’s cat. Ron has disliked Crookshanks ever since he landed on Ron’s head in the pet store, and disliked him even more when he thought that Crookshanks ate Scabbers.
Dobby – Dobby was an old House-Elf of the Malfoys, until Harry set him free (second year). Dobby did many things to try and keep Harry from going to Hogwarts (stopped mail, rouge boulder). Dobby now works at Hogwarts and is getting paid.
Errol – Errol is the Weasley’s very old owl.
Firenze – Firenze is a centaur. He helped save Harry when he was in the Forbidden Forest. He took over Divination lessons when Professor Trelawney was forced to resign by Professor Umbridge, causing Firenze to be kicked out from the Centaurs.
Fluffy – Fluffy is Hagrid’s three-headed dog that was used (in year one) to protect the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone. In order to get past Fluffy, you need to play music or sing.
Griphook – Griphook is a goblin that works for Gringotts. He was the goblin that took Harry to his vault the first time.
Hedwig – Hedwig is Harry’s owl. Hagrid bought her for Harry on his birthday. She is a snowy owl and very smart.
Hermes – Hermes is Percy’s owl.
Mosag – Mosag is a spider, and is Aragog’s wife. Hagrid brought them together.
Mr. Paws – One of Mrs. Figg’s cats
Nagini – Nagini is the snake that helped keep Lord Voldemort alive when he was under Peter Pettigrew’s care.
Norbert – Norbert, the Norwegian Ridgeback, was a dragon that Hagrid took care of until Harry, Ron, and Hermione talked some sense into him, and let them give it to Charlie Weasley to take care of.
Pigwidgeon (“Pig”) – Pig is a very tiny owl that belongs to Ron, and was given to him by Sirius.
Ripper – Ripper is Aunt Marge’s favorite dog.
Ronan – Ronan is a centaur.
Scabbers – Scabbers, who was later found out to be an Animagus, and was really Peter Pettigrew, was Percy’s rat, who was passed down to Ron afterwards.
Snowy – One of Mrs. Figg’s cats
Tibbles – One of Mrs. Figg’s cats
Trevor – Trevor is the toad that Neville’s Great Uncle Algie gave him when he got accepted into Hogwarts. Neville has a habit of loosing his toad.
Tufty – One of Mrs. Figg’s cats
Winky – Winky was a House-Elf of Barty Crouch Sr., but was released when she almost let Barty Crouch Jr. escape. She currently works at Hogwarts, with Dobby.
Avery - During Voldemort's "rebirth" (end of book 4), Avery was the first person to sob at Voldemort's feet ("Master!" he shreiked, "Master, forgive me! Forgive us all!"), and recieved the Cruciatus Curse in reply.
Crabbe - Father of Vincent Crabbe. He took part in the battle at the Ministry of Magic. He was also at the graveyard when Voldemort regained his powers.
Crouch, Bartemius (Jr.) - Voldemort's "Most Faithful Servant". In (the fourth year) he disguised himself as "Mad-Eye" Alastor Moody, using the Poly-Juice potion. He put Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire and helped him throughout the tournament. He tried to kill Harry, by making the TriWizard Cup a portkey, taking Harry directly to Lord Voldemort. He died because of the Dementor's Kiss.
Dolohov, Antonin
Goyle - Father of Gregory Goyle
Lestranges - A married couple that went to Azkaban rather than to denounce Lord Voldemort.
Malfoy, Lucius - Lucius Malfoy is the father of Draco Malfoy, and they are all dreadfully mean & evil. Lucius Malfoy has loads of Dark Arts hidden in his manor. He was the previous owner of Dobby (a house-elf which Harry set free). Mr. Malfoy doesn't get along very well with Arthur Weasley, and they have exchanged some very nasty words, which once (second year) ended in a physical fight. Leads the Death Eaters in "Muggle-torture".
McNair - Worked for the Ministry of Magic before he was a Death Eater. Destroyed Dangerous Beasts for the Ministry (was supposed to be Buckbeak's executioner).
Mulciber
Pettigrew, Peter ("Scabbers" & "Wormtail") - Wormtail was best friends with Sirius Black, James Potter, and Remus Lupin when he was at Hogwarts. While there, he became an animagi (a rat), hence the name "Wormtail". He was the Potter's secret-keeper, and he betrayed them to Lord Voldemort (who killed them). Peter spent 12 years as a rat, and belonged to Ron Weasley ("Scabbers" the rat). He escaped from them in year three, and he left to aid Lord Voldemort back to power, and he, unfortunately, succeeded.
Riddle, Tom Marvolo (VOLDEMORT, "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named", "You-Know-Who", "The Dark Lord") - The evilest, most horrible, and most feared wizard of all time. He went to school at Hogwarts, and when he left the School, he got so lost in the Dark Arts that nobody recognized him. The "Death Eaters" are Voldemort's followers. Everyone in the Wizarding World is too afraid to call his name, and he is often referred as "You-Know-Who" or "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named". It is said that Dumbledore is the only person Voldemort was ever afraid of. He met his "downfall" from a little baby boy, Harry Potter. Harry's mother died to save him, and when Voldemort tried to curse him it backfired. Voldemort fled, barely alive… and it wasn't until (year 4) the TriWizard Tournament that he regained his old body back (with the help of Wormtail and Barty Crouch Jr.), and luckily, his plan to kill Harry Potter didn't work. He is now alive, and well, unfortunately, but without a certain prophecy, if you know what I mean. (If you don't, read book 5!)
Rosier, Evan
Rookwood, Augustus
Travers
Wilkes
Bloody Baron - The Slytherin ghost. He is the only one who can control Peeves. He has silver blood all over him.
Delaney-Podmore, Sir Patrick - The head of the "Headless Hunt". Attended Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party. Fat Friar - The resident ghost of the Hufflepuff House. He always seems to be happy.
Grey Lady - The ghost for Ravenclaw. I personally have never found her in any of the books, but JK Rowling said that she walks past Harry at some point. She is rumored to make a more significant appearence in later books.
Nearly Headless Nick (Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington) - The Gryffindor ghost. He is "nearly-headless" because when he was beheaded, someone didn't do it properly.
Moaning Myrtle - Haunts the girls bathroom in the dungeon. She was murdered by the basilisk the first time that the Chamber of Secrets was opened. Spends her life depressed and crying, although she seems to have taken a liking to Harry...
Peeves - The poltergeist that loves to cause disruption. He is never happy unless he is making trouble of some kind. Mr. Filch's greatest desire is to get Peeves out of Hogwarts.
Wailing Widow - Attended Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party. ("The Wailing Widow came all the way up from Kent..." - Nearly Headless Nick).
Binns – Professor Binns is the only professor in Hogwarts that is a ghost. They say one day he woke up and left his body behind. He teaches “The History of Magic” which is the most boring class in all of Hogwarts.
Dippet, Armando – Armando Dippet was Headmaster of Hogwarts when Tom Riddle and Hagrid were students there, and when Dumbledore was a Professor.
Dumbledore, Albus – (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. Of Wizards). Currently Headmaster of Hogwarts. He is considered to be one of the greatest wizards of the age. He is, supposedly, the only one Voldemort ever feared. The head of the Order of the Phoenix.
Flitwick – Professor Flitwick is the Charms teacher at Hogwarts. He is a very tiny man, and often has to stand on books to see the class over his podium.
Grubbly-Plank – Professor Grubbly-Plank substitutes for Hagrid whenever he is unavailable. She is a very conventional teacher, and wouldn't be caught dead with Blast-Ended-Skwerts.
Hagrid, Rubeus – Hagrid became a professor in Harry’s third year, teaching Care of Magical Creatures. He got off to a rough start as a professor, but has gotten better since then. Hagrid is one of Harry’s good friends, ever since he rescued him from the Dursleys.
Kettleburn – Professor Kettleburn was the Care of Magical Creatures teacher before Hagrid, and left Hogwarts to “have some time with his remaining limbs”.
Lockhart, Gilderoy – Professor Lockhart was teacher of Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) in Harry’s second year. Harry despised him because Lockhart always thought Harry was trying to get famous even though he wasn’t. Lockhart is currently in St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, for a memory charm that backfired.
Lupin, Remus (“Moony”) – Professor Lupin was DADA teacher in Harry’s third year. Because he was bitten by a werewolf when he was a boy, and still transform into a harmless werewolf every month (harmless if he remembers his potion!) he has been an outcast his whole life. Growing up, Lupin was friends with James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. Together they invented the Marauder’s Map. Professor Snape has deep resentment towards Lupin because of a prank Sirius played on him when they were younger. Lupin is a member of the Order. McGonagall, Minerva – Professor McGonagall is Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. She is head of the Gryffindor House, and is also an Animagus (she can turn into a cat). She is great personal friends with Dumbledore.
Moody, Alastor (“Mad-Eye”) – Mad-Eye Moody was an Auror and caught lots of Death Eaters, but in his old age has grown very paranoid. He was supposed to teach at Hogwarts (in Harry’s fourth year) but was prevented from doing so because of an evil plan by Barty Crouch Jr. and Lord Voldemort. He is currently fighting evil once again, as he is a member of the Order.
Quirrell – Professor Quirrell was DADA teacher (in Harry’s first year). He always wore a turban (which contained Lord Voldemort). Quirrell tried to steal the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone from Hogwarts and also from Gringotts but was unsuccessful both times.
Sinistra – Professor Sinistra is the astronomy teacher at Hogwarts.
Snape, Severus – Professor Snape is the Potions Master at Hogwarts. He used to be a Death Eater, but according to Dumbledore “turned spy for us before Voldemort’s downfall, at great personal risk”. Snape has a deep loathing for Harry because he hated his father, James Potter and his godfather, Sirius Black. Snape is a member of the Order.
Sprout – Professor Sprout is the Herbology teacher, and also the Head of Hufflepuff House.
Trelawney, Sibyll – Professor Trelawney is the Divinations teacher at Hogwarts. In just about every class she predicts Harry’s death, which annoys him greatly. She has had a total of two correct predictions, including a Prophecy about Harry Potter's destiny.
Vector – Professor Vector is the Arithmancy teacher at Hogwarts.
